========================================
  CHARACTER CREATION – GENERAL
========================================

Within this document you will find the tools to create  your Vampire:The Masquerade character for use in the sim.  There are a few things about character creation that need to be mentioned before you start:

1.  All characters are subject to approval by the Character Sheet ST's before a character sheet can be used for dice rolls, combat, and role play on the sim.

2.  Initially, the character you create will be limited in terms of generation.  Characters start with a base generation of 13th.  The lowest generation a new character may be is 10th for Neonates, 9th for Ancillia and 6th for Elders. (Elders and Ancilla are limited spots you must speak to the CS ST before creating a sheet)   This is achieved through the use of the generation or elder generation backgrounds. Storyteller permission is required to deviate from these Generation caps.

    3.  In all the time you have been playing you are going to find Disciplines, Paths, Backgrounds, etc, that have been created by other players or groups to use within the VTM system.  If you wish to use one of these, have one of your own, or would like something created for you just ask an ST.   Give an explanation as to what it is, why you need it and how it fits into your character concept and it can be considered for entrance into the game.  Please remember anything you request and that is approved will than be opened for other character to learn and or acquire.

4.  The Admin/ST makes decisions about rules and exceptions on a case by case basis.  This is always done with the best interests of the game in mind and is not done against or for any one player.  All ST rulings on your character sheet are final.

=======================================
CHARACTER CREATION - STEP-BY-STEP
=======================================

Here are the steps to create your character sheet.

CHARACTER SHEET:

Can be found in world at the Welcome Center

STEP ONE: Character Idea

Determine a basic idea for your character concept.  Are you a ventrue Mob Boss, or are you a Tremere book store Owner,  what sorts of skills or schooling have you had etc.  Keep this idea in mind as you determine the traits of your character, below.

Here is an additional resource that may be of help:

http://whitewolf.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

STEP TWO:
From the information above, select your Clan, Concept, Nature, and Demeanor.  Record them at the top of your character sheet.

       * Currently Elders and Ancilla are limited and require ST approval to be played. Please contact the CS ST (Gypsy Inada) if you are inquiring about either.

Concepts

Natures and Demeanors

STEP THREE – ATTRIBUTES (7/5/3):
Attributes are grouped into three categories:   Physical, Social, and Mental.  These will represent the base line of your character.  Are you physically based, a bouncer for a club or an Olympic Athlete?  Are you more Social, a debutante or a politician?  Or is your main focus your mental abilities, are you a doctor, or a researcher?

1.  You begin with one  free “dot” in each Atribute at creation.

2.  Based on your character concept, choose which category to allocate 7 dots to, which  will get 5, and which will get 3.

3.  RECORD those values in parentheses next to that category on your Character Sheet.  Like in the Example below:

                    MENTAL ( 5 )
                    SOCIAL ( 3 )
                    PHYSICAL ( 7 )

4.  Then, distribute the allocated dots to the Abilities within each category, recording them on your Character Sheet, like in the example below:

                    SOCIAL:  ( 5 )
                      Charisma-        * * *
                      Manipulation-  * *
                      Appearance-     * * *

STEP FOUR –ABILITIES    (13/9/5):
There are three categories of Abilities:  Knowledges, Skills, and Talents.  Abilities represent all the knowledge you have aquired over the course of your life, both mortal and kindred.

1.  Based on your character idea and Clan, choose which category to allocate 13 dots to, which will get 9, and which will get 5.

2.  Make a Notation for each Category as to where you assign each value (13/9/5) on your character sheet, by placing them in parentheses next to the category name.  Like in the example below.
                        KNOWLEDGE ( 5 )
                        SKILLS ( 13 )
                        TALENTS ( 9 )

3.  Distribute the points  to the attributes within each category—YOU CAN SPEND UP TO 3 DOTS IN ANY ABILITY AT CREATION BUT NO MORE:    Melee- * * *

* No Characters can ever have more than 5 dots in any trait.  Please keep this in mind on creation as if you start with a 5 in anything you will not be allowed to increase it with experience.

STEP FIVE - ADVANTAGES:

There are three categories of Advantages:  Backgrounds, Disciplines, and Virtues. The Extended background and equipment list is a tool we've made for you to expand on these next few creation steps. The more you record the better you will know your character.  It will also aid the ST's grasp every aspect of who you are right down to the ring you wear on your little finger, and why you never take it off.

1.  BACKGROUNDS  (5 dots):

Backgrounds

     a.  Distribute a total of 5 dots among the Backgrounds explained in the document   above.  You can have one Background at 5 dots, 5 background at 1 dot, or any combination in between.

     b.  Record your Background selection(s) on your Character Sheet, along with the number of dots assigned to each.  Example:  Resources- * * *

2.  DISCIPLINES  (3 dots in Clan disciplines):

Disciplines

     a.  From the document above, select your clan’s Clan Disciplines. Caitiff may select  any disciplines—but be prepared to justify them with your backstory!
     b.  Distribute a total of 3 dots among these Disciplines.  You may place all 3 dots  in a single discipline, one in each, or any other combination.

     c.  Record your Clan Discipline selection(s) on your Character Sheet, along with the  number of dots assigned to each, in the space provided.  Example:

                                    DISCIPLINES:
                                      Celerity- * *
                                      Potence- *
                                      Presence-

3.  VIRTUES  (7 dots)
The three Virtues are Conscience/Conviction, Self-Control/Instinct, and Courage.

     a.  Each virtue starts with one dot.   You than take the 7 creation dots and allocate them between the three as you see fit.

     b.  Record your dot allocations to your Character Sheet:

                                    VIRTUES:
                                        Conscience/Conviction- * * *
                                        Self-Control/Instinct- * * *
                                        Courage- * * * *

STEP SIX – HUMANITY/PATH
Begining characters can only have Humanity, path's can be gained in game, or be allowed only with special ST approval at creation.

     a.  Humanity  is the sum of your Conscience + Self Control.   Your Humanity can never be higher than 10.  Please keep in mind that the adverage Humanity for a law abiding mortal is around 7.

     b.  Record your dots on your Character Sheet, using dots or numerals, like so:

                                    HUMANITY- * * * * *       (or)    5

* Path's are restricted on creation and will only be allowed with special ST approval.

STEP SEVEN – WILLPOWER:
Why have willpower?  Your Willpower can help you resist being comanded and controled or it can add instant successes to your actions.  Willowpower is a movable number and will change day to do as you spend and regain willpower.

    a.  Your willpower always begins equal to your Courage.  But can be adjusted when you spend freebies.  Record this total on Character sheet as
WILLPOWER - MAX, using dots or numerals.

    b.  Willpower Current  is where you will record willpower lost or gained during the game.  Example:

                                    WILLPOWER:       MAX:        * * * * * *    (or)    6
                                                                 CURRENT:    * * * * *    (or)    5

STEP EIGHT – BLOOD POOL
Your Blood Pool represents the maximum numner of blood points your character can contain within himself.  As Blood Points may be spent to activate some Disciplines, increase your attributes or heal damamge, it is a moving number.  Because of this fact you must keep track of them on your sheet.

     a.  Blood Pool is based on your Generation:

13th Gen = 10 Blood Points                  12th Gen = 11 Blood Points
11th Gen = 12 Blood Points                   10th Gen = 13 Blood Points
 9th Gen = 14 Blood Points                    8th Gen = 15 Blood Points

7th Gen = 20 Blood Points                     6th Gen = 30 Blood points

    b.  Record your Blood Pool on your character sheet, in the space provided.

    c.  All characters begin the game with a full blood pool.

STEP NINE – FREEBIE POINTS
Vampire characters get 15 freebie points. ( Mortals and Ghouls receive 21)

1.  Using the freebie point expendature chart below you can increase your abbilities, atributes, advantages etc.

2.  As stated above, No trait score may exceed 5 unless your character is of the proper generation. As a ST for more details if required.

3.  If you spend freebie points in virtues, please recalculate your Humanity/Path and Willpower accordingly.

4.  Freebie Points expendature chart:

        Trait                     Freebie Point Cost
    --------------        -----------------------
    Attributes               5 Points per dot
    Abilities                   2 Points per dot
    Backgrounds         1 Point per dot
    Willpower               1 Point per dot
Disciplines             7 Points per dot  (NOT limited to Clan Disciplines)
    Virtues                    2 Points per dot
    Humanity/Path     1 Point per dot
Merits                     1 Point per dot  (See “Merits and Flaws” below)

5.  MERITS AND FLAWS -  Merits and Flaws are not required on creation. What they can do is help flesh out your character, make them into something more.  They can give ST's things to use for personal SL's and can also be given by ST's as rewards or as results to particular choices a character makes.

     a.  MERITS may be purchased only with Freebie Points during Character Creation.

     b.  FLAWS give you  more Freebie Points:  every point in Flaws you take gives you one  Freebie to spend—up to a max of 7
Flaws are also a good source of points for purchasing Merits.

Below are some merits and Flaws as well as a web sight to help you choose.

Aptitude Merits and flaws

Awareness merits and flaws

Mental merits and flaws

Mortal Society merits and flaws

Physical Merits and Flaws

Psychological merits and flaws

Supernatural merits and flaws

*If there are clan specific merits and Flaws not listed here please include the description, web site or source book you took that merit/flaw from on your character sheet.

STEP TEN – Character History
Where are you from, how did you become a vampire, what have you done since, and how you came to be in the city.  Feel free to expand the information into a full blown biography.  The more you think and write down, the better you will know your character for roleplay.  Further, your bio will likely explain your character sheet choices to the Character Sheet ST, who will review and approve it.

What does a Character History Contain?

1.  Character Histories can be written in several ways.  As a Biography from your mortal birth to your present day, As a Journal, where you detail out the most important occurrences in your long life span.  Or in Time line form, where you do short descriptions for the years of your life.

2. Histories can also contain the descriptive information for backgrounds, like contacts, Allies and mentors.  How you met them and what they mean to you and how they are related to you.

STEP ELEVEN – SUBMIT YOUR CHARACTER SHEET
Submit your completed Character Sheet to the appropriate character sheet ST (Gypsy Inada). Please be patient as many character sheets come in daily and it may take several days before the approval process is completed.  If you do not hear from a Character sheet ST within a weeks time, please contact them again.

=======================================
   A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA
   =======================================

There is a 10 point bonus to Freebie points given for a detailed character history. That can be used to place in Backgrounds and Specializations ONLY!! at a one to one cost.

What is considered a detailed character history is a moderately descriptive story of your character's major life events to present. A couple paragraphs of summary is more than adequate.
